If You Are Accepted, How May We Best Reach You?
Kotara, NSW – 182 Sqm
Kip McGrath approached Evoke Projects with a view to open their first Education Centre in retail space, situated within Westfield Kotara, Newcastle.
The glass entry door opens automatically and invites you in as you walk by, providing a glimpse of the classrooms. The front welcome area consists of a concierge and waiting area on one side, and the manager’s office on the other. This flows on towards the classrooms, rows of workstations, and a staff kitchenette at the back.
Providing the best possible environment for children to study in was paramount. Acoustic screens were installed on both sides of workstations, providing privacy and reducing noise for each student and also around the classrooms. Screens in front of classrooms were made mobile, allowing staff to open up these spaces and have internal meetings comfortably. Mobile screens along with a concierge desk on wheels allow to reconfigure the space to meet evolving needs. Instead of full height walls, lower height screens keep the space as open as possible, allowing tutors to monitor the classrooms easily.
The colour scheme was kept simple to reduce distraction and avoid overpowering the small space. This also provides a background for branding – white and grey tones accompanied by Kip McGrath corporate blue colour. Maximising the space was important, whilst still incorporating the desired features: rows of single workstations, a number of open classrooms, manager’s office, concierge and waiting area as well as kitchenette for staff. The end design brings maximal functionality to a compact space, whilst preserving a comfortable, open feel.Back
