Vets on Falcon is a boutique, community-focused veterinary clinic designed to redefine the traditional clinical experience through a calm, emotionally intelligent environment. Located in Sydney’s Lower North Shore, the project balances high-quality veterinary care with a warm, hospitality-inspired setting that supports both pet wellbeing and client trust. The design prioritises low-stress principles, intuitive planning, and a refined material palette to create a space that feels reassuring, personal, and deeply connected to its local community.

    Give us a challenge

One of the primary challenges was balancing the technical requirements of a fully functioning veterinary clinic with the desire to create a calm, non-clinical environment. Veterinary spaces are inherently complex, requiring durability, hygiene, and efficiency, yet these same requirements can often lead to environments that feel cold or stressful. The project also required close alignment with the client’s strong values and vision, ensuring that every design decision authentically reflected their commitment to compassion, connection, and community. The Practice Principals wanted to make sure that the clinic (the space where patient owners traditionally don't see) was a showcase to give the owners peace of mind.

The brief called for a space that would move away from the traditional, often sterile veterinary environment and instead create a calm, welcoming, and relationship-driven experience grounded in Fear Free principles. The design needed to carefully balance clinical functionality with a highly considered client experience. It supports efficient staff workflows while minimising stress triggers for animals through spatial separation, acoustic control, and gentle transitions. At its core, the project aimed to foster trust, encourage open communication, and create an environment where clients feel confident, supported, and connected throughout their pet’s care journey.

The design introduces a shift from a transactional veterinary model to an experience-led, emotionally responsive environment. The planning focuses on regulating stress and supporting behaviour for both animals and their owners.
Key innovations include the integration of Fear Free spatial principles into the core planning strategy, such as separating cat and dog waiting areas, reducing sensory overload, and designing consult rooms as spaces for conversation rather than purely examination.
The front-of-house experience is intentionally softened, drawing from hospitality design to create a sense of arrival that is calm and familiar rather than clinical.
