    Project Brief

The goal was to deliver a purposefully designed space that promotes healing, dignity and connection. By integrating clinical experience with thoughtful design, the project aimed to inspire hope and empower people on their journey towards mental wellness.

The brief called for a start-up clinic comprising a reception area for two staff members, a waiting area accommodating 10–12 visitors, three consultation rooms, one TMS room, one ketamine treatment room with two treatment beds, and a staff kitchen. Given the sensitive nature of conversations taking place within the clinic, acoustic separation between rooms was an important design consideration.
    Give us a challenge

The primary challenge was accommodating the original brief within a relatively small 124sqm footprint. This required careful planning to incorporate the reception area, waiting space, consultation rooms, TMS room, ketamine treatment room and staff facilities while maintaining patient comfort and operational efficiency. Despite the compact footprint, the design successfully balances functionality with a welcoming and therapeutic experience. Future growth was also considered, with planning allowing for potential expansion into an adjacent tenancy if required.

A soft and restrained palette of warm neutrals, natural timber finishes and muted blue tones was selected to create a sense of comfort and reassurance while maintaining the professionalism required within a clinical setting. Consultation rooms have been designed to encourage open and comfortable conversations, while the treatment spaces provide privacy and a more residential atmosphere to support patient comfort during longer appointments.
Clear wayfinding, simple forms and uncluttered spaces contribute to an environment that feels calm and intuitive to navigate. Acoustic performance was also carefully considered throughout the design to support confidentiality and provide a sense of safety for both patients and clinicians.
